We're not afraid of a little rain however, if the weather is deemed unsafe, we will re-arrange your activity for an alternative date.

Should all participants be able to swim?

Lifejackets or buoyancy aids are always worn during our watersports activity sessions and participants must be water-confident to take part in water-based activities.

What should the children wear?

Children should bring a towel, swimwear for under their wetsuit and spare shoes suitable for use in water.  We also advise a change of clothes for instances where wetsuits may not be worn.

Do you have changing facilities?

Yes, we have plenty of space in our outdoor changing tents.

Can we bring our own lunch?

Absolutely. We have picnic benches outside with views of the water.  We also have an indoor classroom space which can hold up to 15 and other facilities including our Boatshed for bad weather.

We have two ropes courses which range in difficulty and height plus, additional challenges including our Leap of Faith, High All Aboard, Crate Stacking, Climbing Wall & The Gladiator Challenge

Woodland Activities

Making use of the vast ancient woodlands, we also offer a range of on-the-ground activities including:

Are there age limits on activities?

What should the children wear?

Suitable footwear should be worn such as closed toe trainers. Open toe shoes such as Crocs or Sandals are not suitable and will not be accepted on the rope activities. Wellies or boots may be advised for woodland activities depending on weather conditions.

Can we bring our own lunch?

Absolutely. There are plenty of picnic spots around Haigh for you to enjoy your lunch. In bad weather, we can offer a classroom space however, this is subject to availability.

Can you provide lunch for us?

We don’t provide lunch however, there are a number of cafes and outlets on site that offer catering. You can contact the below for more information and pricing.

What school trip packages are available at Low Bank Ground?

We offer both day trip and residential packages. Our residentials packages are 3 or 5 day trips and include a full itinerary of activities, catering and accommodation.

What is the accommodation like for a school trip?

Our groups are accommodated in single or bunk beds in multi-bedded rooms across two main buildings; Highfield (sleeps up to 45) and Rough close (sleeps up to 16). Each bedroom has an allocated bathroom, most are ensuite and both buildings have a kitchen and lounge area.

There are several smaller ensuite rooms available for staff which provide some privacy from the group.

We also have a games room located in Yew Tree Lodge which can be utilised by schools in the evenings.

What is the catering like and can you cater for special dietary needs?

Our Chef prepares homecooked meals from our on-site Kitchen daily. There is a cooked breakfast option each day as well as fruit, cereal and toast. Sandwiches and/or soup will be provided at lunch time and a wholesome evening meal to help you re-fuel after a big day of activities! We are a nut free site which caters for all allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements. Meals are served in our dining room.

What happens during the evenings of a residential stay?

Evenings can be planned to suit your needs. To help you settle in, we usually provide an instructor-led evening activity on your first day. And for the remainder of your stay some schools choose to bring their own resources for activities such as, quiz night, daily diary, movie or games night.

Should all participants be able to swim?

Day trips - Children should wear weather appropriate footwear and clothing. Children should also bring a towel, swimwear for under their wetsuit and spare shoes (suitable for use in water).  We also advise a change of clothes for instances where wetsuits may not be worn.

Residential trips - For all residential trips a comprehensive kit list is provided to include weather and activity appropriate clothing, washbag, pyjamas and a range of footwear.

Do you have changing facilities on site?

Yes. Our dedicated day centre, Yew Tree Lodge, can be utilised for day trips along with our accommodation for residential groups.

What happens in bad weather?

We don’t shy away from a little wind or rain, and we’re committed to building resilience in young people. If it’s safe to do so, we will continue with the activities planned. If weather if deemed unsafe, we would suggest alternative indoor activities such as team building or nature crafts.

Can we bring our own lunch?

For day trips, we ask that you to bring your own lunch. We usually eat outside on our lovely picnic benches overlooking the views of Coniston Water however, in bad weather, we have plenty of indoor spaces suitable for your group. Residential groups will be required to bring there own lunch for day of arrival.

What is a typical itinerary for a residential at low bank ground?

Below is an example itinerary based on a class of 30 Y6 pupils.

What is a typical itinerary for a day trip?

We build bespoke packages for those visiting Low Bank Ground for the day. We ask that groups get to us for 9:30am and depart around 3pm. The day would typically consist of 2 activities with time for lunch in the middle.

Are you able to accommodate those with disabilities or additional needs?

We work hard to provide programmes for all needs and abilities. Our team will work with you to design a bespoke programme based on your requirements.

Jack’s Room is our fully accessible complex needs facility boasting two profile beds and a fully-equipped hygiene suite. We also have an accessible Hippocampe Wheelchair to access the water as well as an accessible minibus and powerboat.
